Operating room of Hôtel-Dieu in 1916 (ph_417)

The doctors contributed financially to the renovations of their hospital and wished, among other things, that everything be white and proper in the operating room. At the time, the medical staff was composed of Doctors C.A. Guy, Alexis Lagacé, Pio H. Laporte, Paul Carmel Laporte, Albert Sormany, Lorne Violette, Émile Simard and E. Vézina. Furthermore, between 1918 and 1923, several doctors gave theoretical and practical lessons to the Sisters who nursed the sick. From 1924, several Sisters went to nursing schools in one of the Religious Hospitallers’ Hôtel-Dieu either in Chatham and Campbellton in New Brunswick, or Windsor in Ontario. A school of nursing was organized at Saint-Basile in 1938.
