Bricklayers and day labourers (ph_753)

In 1908, the construction of the monastery began and advanced slowly because of complications such as rain and the departure of workers. In the spring of 1908, bricklayer Georges Potvin arrived with eleven men, but some left in July. Thomas Viel took charge and hired some men from the region. First row from left to right, seated, ?, Paul Cyr, ?. Second row in the same order: Benoît Lavoie, Théodule Martin, ?, Willie Thériault and Thomas Viel. Sister Maillet’s notes tell us that Thaddée Lavoie carted the bricks and that Jean Fournier and Denis Thériault were day labourers. In the autumn, Paul Anctil came to cure the bricks.
