Doctor Laporte was born in Verchères, Quebec and had married Émilienne Hervieux. From 1903, his name appears in the registers of Hôtel-Dieu, and in 1917, he becomes the Sisters’ doctor. In 1923, he is one of the five regular doctors of Hôtel-Dieu. The others are A.M. Sormany, Desrochers, E. Martin and E.A. Lagacé. Doctor Pio Laporte was Minister of Health and Public Works for the Province of New Brunswick when he died at Hôtel-Dieu in Saint-Basile, from the after-effects of a car accident due to bad roads.
