E. Alexis Lagacé (1870-1926) (ph_2453)

In 1905, Father O. Lagacé from Montreal region took his younger brother, Doctor Lagacé to Hôtel-Dieu in Saint-Basile because he was threatened with blindness and needed a rest. He stayed in Saint-Basile all his life and was a friend and supporter of the community. He was a general practitioner and was anaesthetist at the Hôtel-Dieu. His donations to Hôtel-Dieu were numerous and generous. For example, in 1919, he got electricity for the sanctuary and paid the expenses to regild the old sanctuary lamp. On September 22, 1920, he married Joséphine Dugal, Msgr. Dugal’s half-sister. Dr Lagacé died in 1926 and was buried in the Sisters’ cemetery.
