Alphonse Launière (1846-1931) (ph_3569)

Originally from Saint-Michel de Bellechasse, Father Launière studied at the Grand Seminary of Montreal and was ordained priest by Bishop Ignace Bourget in 1874. Appointed to Madawaska, he was the parish priest of Saint-Léonard-Parent from 1875 to 1903, then at Sainte-Anne. Father Launière was an excellent musician and played the organ with great skill. In the autumn of 1905, he retired at Hôtel-Dieu of Saint-Basile. His sister who had been his housekeeper, also retired there. Father Launière died very old and was buried in the Convent cemetery.
