Born in Rivière-Verte, Solyme Azzie was the son of Georges Azzie and Joséphine Cyr. He did his elementary studies at the Academy in Saint-Basile from 1913 to 1919 and Sister Claudia Lavoie was his teacher. After finishing his classical studies in Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pocatière, he studied theology at Holy Heart Seminary in Halifax and was ordained priest in Chatham in 1831. At first, he was parish priest of Sainte-Anne of Madawaska and at the Assumption parish of Grand Falls. In 1965, he received the title of Honorary Prelate.
