Before entering at the Mother House in Montreal in 1874, Marie Louise Soupras had received a solid bilingual education at the Hochelaga boarding school. She came to the community of Saint-Basile to teach English and music. Being born in an illustrious family, she called herself Grand Lady, which did not impress her companions in Saint-Basile nor the ones in Hôtel-Dieu of Campbellton, where she did a lot of work. After five years of generous work, due to the extreme poverty and innumerable hardships, she returned to Montreal, sick and worn out.
