Sister Césarie Levasseur (1866-1952) (ph_4094)

Born in Saint-François of Madawaska, Césarie became an orphan at age thirteen. She worked for some families and then offered her services at the convent as a servant. At age twenty-seven, she was admitted as a lay sister. Sister Césarie was the community’s cook for more than thirty years. Each September, when the sisters received their duties for the coming year, Sister Césarie was entrusted the duty to pray for the Superior. No wonder the Superiors considered Sister Césarie as a lightning rod. She died in her eighties.
