Méthaïde Gagnon, known as Sister Lausier (1879-1951) (ph_71)

Méthaïde was born in Frenchville, Maine. She obtained her teaching diploma at Fort Kent and taught several years. Then she married a Mister Lausier and had a baby girl. Both her husband and the baby died, and Méthaïde entered at the Hôtel-Dieu in 1906. Sister Lausier took care of the children and worked in the sewing room. Her strength was the medical profession, where she was a pharmacist, radiologist, anesthetist and occasionally a dentist. She went to Windsor to study anesthesiology and to obtain a nursing diploma. Photo taken in the surgery room of Hôtel-Dieu around 1930.
