Sister Joséphine Michaud (1889-1963) (ph_3654)

Originally from St. Leonard of Madawaska, Joséphine studied at the Academy of Saint-Basile and at Normal School in Fredericton, in 1907. After teaching for three years, she entered the convent. She had many different responsibilities, such as, taking care of the sick, the priests and the students. She was a very gifted artist and gave drawing and painting lessons to the students. She also painted tableaux of religious scenes that were exposed in the chapel and in the Sisters’ cafeteria. They can now be seen along the main staircase in Le Royer Wing of Saint-Basile Hôtel-Dieu.
