Rectory and church of Kedgwick (am_2280)

The first church of Richards, later called Kedgwick, was made of wood. It was built in 1912 on a piece of land donated by Mrs. Joseph Girard in 1911. Until 1915, Fathers Arthur Melanson, B. J. Murdoch, Eudore Martin and Auguste Allard performed the religious services in this church. Isaac Farrar was the first to settle at Kedgwick River in 1900, and the Irishman Michael Broderick came in 1906. In 1908, F.-Xavier St-Laurent began a lumber enterprise at White Brook for the Price Company of Causapscal. His family came to join him in 1918. To avoid confusion with Richardville near Campbpellton, the name of the Post Office was changed from Richards to Kedgwick in 1915. Photo around 1915.
