Grand Falls Hotel (am_2065)

Built in 1853 and located on Broadway Boulevard, this very beautiful building was, at first, the Court House for Victoria County until 1876. Then the Court was moved to Andover. Fred Brown bought the building and transformed it into the Grand Falls Hotel. Anita Lagacé claims that Brown was the richest businessman in Grand Falls, When he died in January 1888, the students were given a holiday. In fact, Brown was also owner of a big store, lumber woods and was the first custom officer. The Grand Falls Hotel was destroyed by fire in 1894. Another similar but slightly bigger hotel was built and took the name Grand Falls Motor Inn. Photo around 1890. PC3-104, collection CDEM, ShM.
