Alphonse Toner’s family (am_2365)

Alphonse Toner (1865-1949) was the son of Michael Toner and Margaret Nugent, Irish who came to live at the Portage in Grand Falls around 1850. On July 14, 1887, Alphonse married Ellen McCormack (1869-1952), daughter of Thomas McCormack and Bridget Hopkins, who were also of Irish descent and lived at the Portage. Alphonse was a farmer. During the summer of 1947, Alphonse and Ellen celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary and a mass was celebrated on the lawn of their house. They had nine children and adopted Mary Aubé and their grandson Joyner.
