Three Saindon brothers (am_1274)

Three sons of Benjamin Saindon and Henriette Collin of Saint-Hilaire studied at Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pocatière College and became priests. From left to right, Joseph, seated; Émile, standing; and Benjamin, seated. Joseph (1885-1922) studied theology in Quebec and obtained a degree in Canon Law. Most of his ministry was done in Néguac where he died suddenly. Émile (1891-1935) joined the Oblates of Mary Immaculate in 1916 and was a missionary in James Bay from 1922 to 1934. He died suddenly at Cochrane while preaching the word of God, holding a crucifix in his hand. Benjamin (1894-1948) was named parish priest of Saint-Basile in 1932 and first had to build a church. He encouraged people to participate in the Caisses Populaires (Credit Unions) and Coopératives (Coops) in Madawaska. Photo taken around 1920.
