Palais de Justice / Court House (am_2061)

The sign on the Palais de Justice / Court House in Edmundston was bilingual, long before New Brunswick was officially declared a bilingual province. Built in 1907, this building was located on St-François Street near the street leading to the International bridge. In the background, can be seen the new Customs and Immigration Office built in 1946. These services had existed in Edmundston since 1896. The Court House, which also had the local jail in the basement, was demolished in the summer of 1968. Photo taken in the 1950′s. PC3-74, collection CDEM, ShM.
