In 1929, Father Wilfrid Ouellette became the first parish priest of the St. Thomas of Aquinas church in Madawaska, Maine. Before, this parish was a mission founded and served by Father Nadeau, parish priest of St. David, Maine. Father Wilfrid Ouellette constructed a building which then served as a church and a school. The church was on the first floor. In 1930, the parish priest asked the Daughters of Wisdom to run the eight classroom school located above the church. The school opened after potato harvesting time.
