William Conway (1876-1961) (am_1255)

Son of John Conway and Hannah Muldoon, William was born in St. John, N. B. He became an orphan at the age of eleven and was placed at the convent in Saint-Basile. He later studied at St. Mary’s College in Van Buren, Maine. He was ordained a priest in 1901 in Quebec. He taught English at the seminary for two years and later served as curate in Chatham from 1903 until 1908. He then became administrator and then parish priest of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception of Edmundston. He remained at the head of the parish almost all his life. He was named Domestic Prelate in 1943 and served as Vicar-General to the first Bishop of Edmundston, Antoine Roy and his successor Bishop J. Roméo Gagnon. In 1955, Msgr. Conway was named Apostolic Protonotary. He was buried in the crypt of the Cathedral in Edmundston. Photo taken in 1955.
